FAA Administrator

-What are the qualifications of John Dunkin (President Trump's pilot)?

-        He started flying when he was only fifteen. He became Trumps personal pilot in 1982 and has been flying Donald Trump around ever since. He was the head pilot and planner during President Trumps campaign in 2016. Other than these few things I really couldn’t find to much more out about Dunkin (Siren, 2018).

-Who are the other candidates for FAA Administrator and what are their qualifications?

-        The other candidates are the current FAA administrator, Daniel Elwell, and a Missouri Republican, Sam Graves. Their qualifications very but they are both fully capable individuals for the job. Daniel Elwell was actually appointed by President Trump in 2017 and swore in in June. Since his tenure, Elwell has impressed many in the industry (Elwell, 2018). On the other hand, one report said Sam Graves has actually been reported stating that he doesn’t know that he’s in the running for FAA Administrator. Although, being a senator he is fully capable of learning the position responsibilities and striving. (Wise, n.d.)

-Pick two past FAA Administrators. What was their qualifications?

-        Elwood R. “Pete” Quesada
o   He was the first FAA administrator. He was also a member of the Army Air Corps and flew fighter aircraft in WW2. Fun fact, he served under General Spaatz when Spaatz was a Major. General Spaatz later became the first Chief of Staff of the Air Force. “Pete” later commanded in the Air Force before retiring and joining the FAA.

-        William F. McKee
o   Also served in the military but started in the Army and then joined the Army Air Force. He rose through the ranks quickly in his career and attained the position of Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force; which he was the first to hold that position without an aeronautical rating (in other words, not being a military pilot)

-What is the job description of FAA Administrator?

-        It strange but I couldn’t find an actually description of the FAA administrators job. They don’t really have anything published but I would assume that it would be similar to being the head of the CIA, except with less covert and clandestine operations.

-In terms of your career and based upon the job description above, do you feel that it matters who the FAA Administrator is? Why or why not?

-        In all honesty, I don’t believe that a change in FAA leadership will affect my career at all. Being a military pilot, the FAA isn’t in my chain of command and there for I will be operating under slightly different rules.

  1. Very Straight to the point blog, I enjoyed reading the information you provided. John Dunkin is indeed a qualified person. He is not only a pilot but he also had experience in the aviation business in general. He had managed flight departments and helped certify air carriers following the FAA regulations and all of that good stuff. There are also other candidates who are just as qualified.
